Grant funds will help replace roof on building on Ella Street, between Fifth and Sixth
BEATRICE – A Beatrice downtown building now occupied by a new business is one of three recipients of grant funds to help refurbish historic buildings.
History Nebraska has announced it's awarding over $74,000 through its Bricks and Mortar grant program to projects in Beatrice, Comstock and Verdigre.
The Beatrice project will assist removal and replacement of a flat rubber roof on the former Dole Floral Building along Ella Street…..now the home of Wicked Good Foods. Included will be new flashing and gutters. The Dole Floral Company, according to historic accounts, was incorporated in 1904.
In Comstock, grant funds will be used to remove and replace a roof on the Dowse Sod House.
In Verdigre, grant money will help support replacement of a tin roof on the front two-thirds of the Z.C.B.J. Opera House.
The grants are administered by the Nebraska State Historic Preservation Office….with the funding provided by the Historic Preservation Fund.
Three projects were selected from seven applications. All of the projects are to be completed by July, of 2025.
