JEFFERSON COUNTY, Neb. -- Eastern Nebraska is in a state of emergency after arctic low temperatures and snow has swept across the state, according to County Commissioner Gale Pohlmann.
The County Highway Department has been out early Sunday morning continuing to open roads but, like Friday and Saturday, those companies are still experiencing some major drifts and extreme cold temperatures that are hampering the progress.
Gale Pohlmann asks for residents' patience over the next two days as crews do their best to clear the roads and make travel possible by Monday night, according to Pohlmann.
Along with the State of Emergency declared for by Gov. Pillen, Emergency Manager John McKee is in the process of preparing a disaster declaration for Jefferson County.
The State is still assessing needs and how this State of Emergency will affect Jefferson County is still not clear, according to Pohlmann.
