LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - The ‘suspicious death’ of a 76-year-old man in December has been ruled a homicide, according to Lincoln Police.

Lincoln Police said officers responded to 12th and New Hampshire for a welfare check on Dec. 19, following concerns from family members about the well-being of 76-year-old Larry Cole. LPD smelled natural gas coming from the home and called Lincoln Fire and Rescue for assistance.

After LFR turned off the gas, they discovered 45-year-old Alaric Harden inside, conscious and alert. He received medical treatment before being taken to an area hospital.

Crews also found Cole, whom police believe had died in the home a few days earlier. Following the autopsy, the case is now being investigated as a homicide.

Upon release from the hospital, Harden was cited and lodged in the Lancaster County Jail for removing or concealing human remains. Our partners at 10/11 asked if Harden is considered a suspect in the homicide but police wouldn’t comment further on the investigation.

A gas stove is believed to be the source of the gas.
