Handful of office holders become the first candidates to enter the 2024 election

BEATRICE – Three more incumbents locally have entered the elections for 2024.  First ward Beatrice City Councilman Gary Barnard filed for reelection on Friday.   Barnard chairs a special committee that is examining local ordinances and possible revisions.

Also seeking reelection is Emily Haxby, of Clatonia….a Republican Gage County Board member in District Two.   Haxby has played a key role in a broadband development project that made use of ARPA funds the county has received….and has been working on behalf of the board to secure various federal grants for transportation projects.

Eric Book of Beatrice has filed for reelection to his seat on the Beatrice Board of Education.   He is completing his first term.

Friday was the first day candidates for local office could file for the 2024 races…at the Gage County Clerk’s Office.

Beatrice City Council incumbent Ted Fairbanks was the first local candidate to file for reelection, early Friday.  He serves in the Second Ward of Beatrice.
