Lincoln Police identify pedestrian struck and killed by vehicle Thursday night

Lincoln Police said a 43-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday night.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Lincoln Police said a 43-year-old woman died after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday night.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. at 43rd and Leighton in the eastbound lanes.

Police said the driver of an SUV struck a woman who was crossing the road. Police said the woman, later identified as Monica Salazar, was taken to the hospital but died a couple hours later from her injuries.

LPD said Salazar was not in the crosswalk and no citations were issued.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to call them at 402-441-6000.
