Hickman man killed in crash on icy road in Lincoln

A Hickman man died in a crash on his way to work in Lincoln Thursday morning.

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - A Hickman man died in a crash on his way to work in Lincoln Thursday morning.

The single vehicle crash happened on Highway 77 just south of Saltillo Road around 6 a.m.

According to Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, 33-year-old Dalton Vorhies lost control of his Chevy Trailblazer, went off a steep embankment and rolled several times.

Houchin said Vorhies was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

According to LSO, road conditions and not wearing a seatbelt played a major role in the deadly crash.

Icy roads contributed to several other crashes in and around Lincoln Thursday morning.

Southeast of Lincoln, first responders were dispatched to the area of 120th Street and Highway 2 for a vehicle that slid off the road and into the grassy median. One person was transported to the hospital by Bennet Volunteer Fire and Rescue.

Several accidents on I-80 also closed of sections of the interstate.

The 10/11 Weather team has been reporting slick conditions and reduced visibility.

Lincoln-Lancaster Emergency Management posted on social media asking drivers to use caution and allow extra time to reach their destination.
