Highway intersection crash in Cortland, injures drivers

BEATRICE – Injuries to both drivers resulted from an accident along a highway in Cortland, Monday afternoon.

Gage County law officers said the collision happened at U.S. Highway 77 and West 4th Street.  A southbound 2016 Kia Soul driven by Joy Sheets, of Kearney, collided with an eastbound 2007 Chevrolet S-U-V, driven by Kylie Bean, of Cortland.

Deputies say the SUV failed to yield after stopping at the stop sign at the intersection.  The crash totaled both vehicles. 

Sheets was taken by Cortland Rescue to Bryan West Health Center in Lincoln with unknown injuries.  Bean was taken for medical treatment by a family member. Both drivers were using safety restraints and airbags activated in the Kia. 

The collision happened at around 3:50 p.m., Monday.
