FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Crystal Springs Campground in Fairbury has a public Christmas lights display for all residents to come enjoy.

The lights and decorations, set up by different companies around the area, span all through the campground, spreading Christmas spirit.

Driving through the park is free; and spectators can stop by Santa’s hut at the end of the display and receive a treat and a list of all the sponsors involved.

All of the volunteers for the event work for free, but people can leave free will donations for funding next year’s Christmas lights display.

This is the third year of the event and it has been a big hit in the community.

“We have a certain group of people that they come through every single night so I can’t help but think the community is enjoying it. Even when we have a different event out there, like this past weekend, you will see people come through multiple times again,” said Brian Schmidt, promoter for the event. “I think it is good for the community. Fairbury needs more events going on, that’s part of it. I want to set a good example for my kids, showing them that you can volunteer hours and really do some good in the community. So that’s kind of part of it. And just seeing all of the happy people that come through and all the kids that come through week after week and year after year, it’s just been inspirational for me and it makes me want to keep it going and growing for the future.”

The light display is open Monday through Sunday every week until Dec. 31. It is open Sunday through Thursday until 9 p.m. and Friday and Saturday until 10 p.m.

Times are subject to change due to weather.
