Doane football Head Coach Chris Bessler resigns
CRETE, Neb. -- Doane football announced the resignation of Head Coach Chris Bessler after a 2-9 season.
Bessler had been the head coach of the Tigers for six seasons after he was the defensive coordinator from 2007 to 2017, leading the Tigers to multiple top 10 defenses in the 2010s.
The University released this statement regarding the resignation,
“Doane University accepted the resignation of head football coach Chris Bessler on Wednesday (Nov. 15).
'Doane is extremely thankful for the years of service Coach Bessler has given to the University and the football program,’ said Mark Wateska, Doane University Director of Athletics. ‘We wish him much success in his future endeavors.’
The University will commence a national search for a new head coach immediately.”
The team allowed 2,710 passing yards while throwing 16 interceptions compared to only eight passing touchdowns.
With signing day approaching on Feb. 7, the search for a new head coach seems to be accelerated for the Tigers.
