Fairbury's Veteran of the Month - Sherry Joubert
FAIRBURY, Neb. -- Fairbury’s Veteran of the Month is Sherry Joubert, who served in the U.S Navy.
Sherry was born in Lincoln but moved around the Midwest due to her father being in the Air Force. A year after graduating high school, she joined the Navy and attended boot camp in Orlando, Fla.
Sherry worked for Navy Morale Welfare and Recreation Department before getting transferred to Naples, Italy on her second duty station.
Her function was to transport supplies on Mike boats from the port of Naples to ships that were anchored out of the port.
After six months, Sherry studied to become a Disbursing Clerk and was moved to the Payroll and Finance Department where she remaining throughout her Naval career.
Since retiring from the Navy, Sherry continued to work in the accounting field before moving to her permanent home in Fairbury, Neb.
In 2013, Sherry started working in the Jefferson County Court until 2020 when she retired.
Sherry spends her retirement traveling to place like Alaska, Florida, Utah and has taken two cruises. She plans to travel as much as possible.
Sherry was awarded, her fourth Good Conduct Medal, Coast Guard Meritorious Unit Commendation, Overseas Service Ribbon, the Expert Ribbon for Service Rifle, Expert Ribbon for Service Pistol, Meritorious Unit Commendation and the National Defense Service Medal.
