MARYSVILLE, Kans. -- The Marysville Chamber of Commerce hosted a roundtable discussion aimed at workplace recruitment and retention.
With the job market in a frenzy due to the pandemic, Wayne Kruse wanted to open up discussion with panelists and locals to get their insight and input.
“Well today we have a roundtable discussion to talk about employee recruitment and retention,” said Kruse. “As I meet with our members, no matter the size of the business, the one thing we have in common is that we need employees. And so, as we were talking to our members to figure out what we can do to help solve this problem, we decided to have a roundtable discussion.”
The event was open to anyone and had three panelists who have been or are in a hiring or recruitment role within their company.
Kruse said that high schoolers are the most important demographic to reach.
“And so we need to make sure that our high school students know that Marysville is a great place to live, work and play,” said Kruse. “So, whether they stay here, or go to college, or go to trade school or go away for a while, we need them to know; we need you to come back.”
Kruse said that it is important to look at resources within the community to gain insight about the worker shortage.
“Sometimes we look outside rather than looking inside,” said Kruse. “There are a lot of resources here in Marysville that you can turn to to rely on or call for help. So, one of the goals for this roundtable is to let people know, let’s help each other.”
Kruse hopes this event can help spur some of the Marysville population to turn to employment within the town.
