BEATRICE, Neb. - A southeast Nebraska woman is being recognized for her dedication and hard work within her community.

Beatrice's Verdella Vetrovsky has been awarded the Medica Community Hero Award for her work with projects in the area. She was nominated by Arvid Wiest.

"It's truly an honor and I'm completely humbled to receive this award," Vetrvosky said. "We've lived here our entire lives and it's our honor to give back to this community."

Vetrovsky has done work on the Beatrice Veteran's Park and with Big Give Gage.

"We just finished Big Give Gage, what a project that was. $390,000 going back into the community," Vetrovsky. "And the Veterans park has been a part of me for a very long time. We dedicated the park in 2005 and we're still taking inscriptions and today we're at 1,856 inscriptions."

Vetrovsky has been given $1,000 to donate to an organization of her choosing and Vetrovsky plans to give the funds to the Beatrice Rotary Foundation for the Veterans Park.

"Hopefully we'll start raising funds for that fourth structure to see our vision come true all the way to the end."
