Fairbury VFW hosts Taco Tuesday

FAIRBURY, Neb -- The Fairbury VFW hosts a taco night every Tuesday for the community to come out and enjoy food.
The taco night is from 5 to 7 p.m. or when they sell out.
David Bruns, Commander of the American Legion Post 24 in Fairbury, said it is great for the community.
“Everybody seems to enjoy it,” Bruns said. “It is something different. There is no other taco night around, you know, there is a wing night in the neighborhood and the Elks have burger night on Wednesday but nobody does a taco night. We have gotten a lot of people who have been here every week. So I think that the feedback that we have gotten is that they are enjoying it and they are supporting us for it.”
One taco and chips with salsa is $7. The food can be eaten at the VFW or taken to-go.
Bruns said that the most number of people they have had is 80 but it averages to around 40 to 50 every Tuesday.
“And it is something different and something new. It is something going on,” Bruns said. “It gives people a chance to get together with food and a drink and, just like with our Husker game thing we do on game days, it gives people a chance to get out of the house and actually interact with their neighbors.”
Not only is this a great opportunity to give food to the community, but Bruns said he donates the money to different community outreaches and campaigns.
“We have the 'Be The One' campaign,” Bruns said. “Right now, we are seeing about 24 veterans a day commit suicide and another 30 die from substance abuse. Be the one to be there for a guy, talk to him, call him. Be the one to listen for him. This is what we are trying to raise money for, is to help support these kinds of outreaches, Legion baseball, boys and girls state.”
The taco night is every Tuesday at the VFW. Card is not accepted when paying for a meal.
