TSCI staff members assaulted by inmate, two injured
Law enforcement says there were multiple staff members assaulted on Saturday at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.
By News Channel NebraskaTECUMSEH, Neb. -- Law enforcement says there were multiple staff members assaulted on Saturday at the Tecumseh State Correctional Institution.
The staff members were assaulted by a TSCI inmate, and two of them received serious injuries according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
NDCS said the assault happened in the afternoon when staff members were conduction a random cell search.
Once the inmate was removed from his cell for the search, NDCS said he used his head to hit staff members in the face.
Officials said the staff members restrained the inmate and removed him from the area.
One of the staff members was treated at the hospital for a broken nose and another for a mild concussion.
The incident is under investigation.
Findings will be provided to the county attorney for determination of criminal prosecution. The NDCS disciplinary process will be utilized with sanctions such as loss of good time, applied according to the rules and regulations.
