Responding police investigate witness reports in making domestic assault arrest

BEATRICE – Beatrice Police responding to a report of someone trying to break into vehicles on Grant Street, arrested a female for third-degree domestic assault.

At around 11:30 p.m., responding police spoke with a witness, who pointed at a woman walking near North 18th and Grant. A second witness reported seeing the woman pushing and slapping the first witness.  When the first witness got into the driver seat of a car, the suspect followed, getting into the front passenger seat and allegedly starting hitting the person behind the wheel.

The victim told police the female wrapped a wire, later identified as a charging cord, around the victim’s neck. Officers observed significant bruising around his neck.

Police learned the pair have been in a relationship for about six years. 

Police arrested 24-year-old Jailene Marte on suspicion of 3rd-degree domestic assault.   She was taken to the Gage County Jail.
