LCSO arrests man in connection to child abuse case

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Authorities said 35-year-old man from Lancaster County was arrested for physical and sexual abuse of a girl.
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, said on Tuesday around 10 a.m., deputies were contacted by a social worker through a company called Church World Service (CWS), based out of Texas.
LCSO said that CWS reported to deputies that they had been contacted by a 17-year-old girl who was living on Saltillo Road, and was the victim of physical and sexual abuse by 35-year-old Alvaro Gomez-Lopez.
Deputies said they immediately responded to the location, removed the victim and took her to an advocacy center for forensic interview.
The 17-year-old was taken into temporary custody and turned over to the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services for placement.
The initial investigation reportedly told LCSO that Gomez-Lopez was living at the Saltillo Road address after illegally entering the U.S. six months ago.
LCSO said that recently, Gomez-Lopez had made financial arrangements for the 17-year-old girl to be illegally brought into the U.S. from Guatemala and taken to him without her consent.
After arriving to the Lancaster County home around July 16, Gomez-Lopez has reportedly forced the girl to work inside and outside of the home to repay the debt incurred to transport her, officials said.
Authorities said the victim reported that food had been withheld form her for five days before the deputies showed up.
LCSO said the investigation also told them that she was being subjected to sexual contact by Gomez-Lopez.
Officials said that in the evening of Aug. 1, they arrested Gomez-Lopez at the home without incident.
He was lodged at the Lancaster County Adult Detention Facility for felony child abuse and cited for third-degree sexual assault.
LCSO said since the arrest, deputies have been working with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement regarding Gomez-Lopez's immigration status.
