BEATRICE – Gage County’s Board of Equalization is conducting hearings on property valuation protests that were filed with the county.  A total of 322 protests were filed this year, as residential and commercial property values rose significantly. Valuations are set based on property sales data over a multi-year period and comparison with similar properties.

Gage County officials expected to hear more than 40 valuation protests during a Wednesday afternoon and will hear additional protests at a meeting on July 24th, at 10:30 a.m. The board could handle up to about 240 protests that day.

Any remaining protests to be heard may be handled at a July 25th meeting.  Some of the protests are resolved through meetings with the county assessor’s office, before they go to a hearing before the Board of Equalization.
