Several staff members injured by inmates in Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Seven staff members at the Reception and Treatment Center (RTC) in Lincoln were injured after three inmates reportedly assaulted them on Wednesday.
The Department of Correctional Services said three inmates at RTC were intoxicated. Five staff members were reportedly directing the inmates when the inmates started to assault the staff.
Officials said two more staff members were injured when they came to help. The seven staff members were reportedly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to authorities, the five staff members that were originally assaulted had injuries that were consistent with stabbings made by manufactured weapons along with injuries from being kicked and punched.
NDCS said none of the staff members' injuries are considered life-threatening but are serious. Three weapons were reportedly found in the unit that the assault happened, which is one of two high security, maximum custody units at RTC.
The incident is being investigated.
