Steele City honors military members from southeast Nebraska, northeast Kansas
Military members from southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas were honored over the weekend.
STEELE CITY, Neb. -- Military members from southeast Nebraska and northeast Kansas were honored over the weekend.
The Steele City American Legion and Auxiliary Campbell-Klein #349, with assistance from Fairbury Veterans of Foreign Wars #3013 and American Legion # 24, conducted Memorial Day Services at two cemeteries on Sunday.
Back-to-back afternoon ceremonies were held in Steele City, Neb., and Hollenberg, Kan.
The Star Spangled Banner was sung by Nate Behrends. Mitch Zabokrtsky was master of ceremonies and read the Gettysburg Address. Auxiliary member Tammy Katz read the Roll of Honor, the names of veterans buried in each cemetery.
Lt. Mark Schoenrock, U. S. Army Retired, was the speaker. He spoke of the dedication of those who choose to serve their country and thanked all veterans for their service.
The ceremony concluded by laying a wreath at the monument dedicated to our fallen comrades and POWs, a firing squad salute and the playing of taps.
