BEATRICE - The Beatrice Orangemen baseball season has come to an end.

The Orangemen fell to Omaha Gross Catholic 5-2 on Tuesday evening in the consolation bracket of the 2023 state tournament. The Orangemen got out to an early 1-0 lead in the first thanks to an RBI-single by Orangemen starting pitcher Deegan Nelson, but things went southward in the second -- Gross Catholic would plate three unearned runs as a result of throwing errors by the Orangemen.

Then, in the sixth, after back to back walks issued by Trevin Lang, Colby Duncan singled in a run for Gross to make it 4-1. Beartrice would also string together some offense in the sixth, but John Riesen was caught in a run down heading for home to end the inning -- Beatrice would have had the bases loaded with two outs after Colin Mangnall reached on an infield single.

Gross plated one in the seventh, as did the Orangemen, as the Cougars advance past Beatrice 5-2.

The Orangemen end the year 15-10 and the careers of seniors Josh Buhr, Jaxson Blackburn, Deegan Nelson, Tucker Timmerman, and Luke Feist have come to an end.
