Reports: Thompson transferring from Huskers
LINCOLN, Neb. – The Nebraska football team appears to have trimmed its quarterback room in half in the offseason, with multiple reports indicating that 2022 starter Casey Thompson has entered the transfer portal.
According to both The Athletic and On3, Thompson is leaving the Huskers after one season in Lincoln, aiding Nebraska's attempts to get to the 85-man scholarship limit.
Thompson transferred to Nebraska prior to last season after spending four years at Texas. In 10 games with the Huskers, he completed 63 percent of his passes while throwing for 2,407 yards and 17 touchdowns.
The Oklahoma native will have one year of eligibility remaining. Thompson will turn 25 in October.
He joins fellow former starter Logan Smothers and redshirt freshman Richard Torres in the transfer portal.
Nebraska’s quarterback room now includes Jeff Sims, Chubba Purdy and Heinrich Haarberg as scholarship players.
The news of Thompson's reported transfer comes on the same day that Noa Pola-Gates announced his departure from the Huskers.
