Pickrell Locker gearing up for summer with spring holidays serving as a warm up
PICKRELL - It’s been nearly six years since the Pickrell Locker and Smokehouse opened their doors to serve southeast Nebraska.
As temperatures warm up, people are getting more and more eager to fire up their grills, owner Bob Freeman says traffic is starting to pick up.
“It’s picking up a good bit,” Freeman said. “Like you said, grilling season I starting, so people are coming in to buy the stuff for their grilling.”
Freeman has been a part of the business since it began in 2017 and says one of the pillars of Pickrell Locker is using local meat. He says it even helps to get supply quicker when using suppliers nearby.
“It’s always good to be local and worth with the small guy here at home. That’s sort of how we built the business,” Freeman said. “We like staying local and shopping local as much as possible. As far as retail, we’ll sometimes go with big box suppliers to get that stuff.”
Despite the spring bringing warmer weather, and an itch to grill, things can slow down as well. Freeman says holidays always provide good business.
“Holidays always provide a pretty good boost,” Freeman said. “It gets people out shopping when they normally wouldn’t, getting unique stuff for dinner so holidays usually help out pretty well.”
