LINCOLN, Neb. -- Authorities in the metro area have arrested a 32-year-old Lincoln man in connection to a child abuse investigation.

On March 12, around 4:20 p.m., the Lincoln Police Department said they responded to a local hospital on a report of a 22-month-old child being seen for injuries consistent with abuse.

Officials said the child was found to have obvious signs of injury and was transported to another hospital in Omaha for a higher level of care.

It was reported that LPD investigators quickly collaborated with patrol officers to investigate the incident which led them to a residence on G St., the home of 32-year-old Joshua Tackett.

When authorities arrived, it was reported that Tackett was not home at that time.

Authorities reported the course of events through the week following the incident.

On March 14 around 10:24 a.m., LPD said Tackett was contacted at a residence on Peach St. where he was taken into custody and arrested for possession of firearm by a prohibited person.

LPD reported that on Friday at 11:17 a.m., the child died from his injuries.

Hours later, around 3 p.m., LPD said that Tackett was contacted at the Lancaster County Jail where he remained in custody for the weapons violation and was arrested for child abuse resulting in death.

This is an ongoing investigation.
