Down Syndrome Awareness Day, coming up soon

BEATRICE – March 21st will be observed as World Down Syndrome Awareness Day in Nebraska and Gage County.
Monte Murkle of rural Clatonia led a similar local observance a year ago…and spoke with county supervisors this week about the observance coming up…
"I came and asked if we could put up some signs, to recognize World Down Syndrome Day. You guys approved it...and we also had the approval of changing the lens colors of the (courthouse) floodlights for that night. I've got the lens covers here..I'll drop them off. But, I wanted to show you the poster..the sign that will be put up. Just wanted to show you what it's going to look like and to say thank you. The 21st is almost here...but this is your last meeting before the 21st and I wanted to thank you ahead of time."
Governor Jim Pillen is signing a proclamation recognizing March 21st as Down Syndrome Awareness Day….and local officials often issue proclamations noting it, as well. This year’s World Down Syndrome Theme is…..”With Us, Not For Us”.
