BEATRICE – Fire units were sent to some rural fires Saturday, southwest of Beatrice and near Clatonia.

Beatrice Rural firefighters were sent to a controlled burn along West Lilac Road near Hidden Acres Golf Course, that briefly got out of control.   Emergency dispatch traffic noted that fire units were on the scene for just over 25 minutes.

Clatonia Firefighters were sent to a small grass fire during the noon hour Saturday, that sent some smoke over U.S. Highway 77.   Mutual aid was sought from Cortland and Adams fire units.  That fire was brought under control quickly.

Firefighters also checked out a second fire south of Apple Road, but that turned out to be a controlled burn of waterways that did not require firefighting efforts.
