BEATRICE - Beatrice's quest for a third straight state tournament showing has fallen short.

The Orangemen fell in the Class B-6 District final 47-34 to the Bennington Badgers on Monday night. Beatrice led early thanks to five first quarter points from Luke Feist, to go along with three steals. Beatrice trailed at the half by four, 21-17. The Orangemen forced nine first half turnovers from the Badgers.

Beatrice outscored Bennington 12-5 in the third quarter, including a floater buzzer-beater from Treyson Russell -- the fourth time this season he's converted at the end of the third. That put Beatrice up 29-26 headed to the fourth.

The fourth quarter was all Bennington as the Badgers outscored the Orangemen 19-5 in the final frame.

Beatrice was led in scoring by Luke Feist with 10.

With the loss, Beatrice ends their season at 11-10 with five seniors ending their high school careers... Shelton Crawford, Dawson Loomis, Kieyn Omon, Luke Feist, Tucker Timmerman and Dominik Salazar.

The Lady Orange take on Sidney in the state tournament on Thursday night.
