BEATRICE – An Illinois woman is the new Chief Probation Officer in southeast Nebraska.

Melanie Stormer was recently named Chief Probation Officer for District 1, which includes Fillmore, Gage, Jefferson, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, Richardson, Saline, and Thayer Counties. She started her new job, on February 6th.

Stormer said she was motivated to move to Nebraska by her desire to return to service in a court within a rural community.

She has over 20 years of experience, including service as a Chief Probation Officer of a rural jurisdiction, probation supervisor, clinical supervisor for a problem-solving court and program coordinator of Big Brothers and Big Sisters for youth.

Stormer most recently served as a national consultant involving training, education, and coaching for officers and justice stakeholders on evidence-based practices. She has also served as an adult and juvenile probation officer.
