State wrestling day one results

Day one of the NSAA State Wrestling Championships are in the books and several southeast Nebraska wrestlers still have a shot at a gold medal.

Day one of the NSAA State Wrestling Championships are in the books and several southeast Nebraska wrestlers still have a shot at a gold medal. 

After a Thursday full of opening round and quarterfinal matchups, Fillmore Central has the most wrestlers through to the semifinals in our area. The Panthers still ha four wrestlers in the championship bracket. Alex Schademann (138), Aiden Hinrichs (145), Jackson Turner (182) and Markey Hinrichs (285) will compete in semifinals Friday night. 

 They're followed closely by Beatrice, who is sending three wrestlers through to the semifinals. Cade Eggleston (152), Deegan Nelson (195) and Morgan Maschmann (115) are still in contention for gold.

Wilber-Clatonia and Thayer Central each have two wrestlers in the semifinals. The Woliverines have Zaiyahn Ornelas (106) and Iverson Mejia (132). The Titans still competing for gold are Triston Wells (120) and Gunner Mumford (170). 

Fairbury's Makena Schramm (190) is still alive to get back to a championship bout. Johnson County Central's Jocelyn Prado (100) is in a similar position.

All other local wrestlers are in the consolation bracket with a chance for third place. 

Friday will start with elimination matches. Classes A and D will go first with the first and second rounds of consolations at 9 a.m. Classes B and C and the girls will follow at noon. 

Then at 6:30 p.m. all classes will compete in their semifinal matches and third round consolation matches.
