Wrestling, basketball combine for dominant weekend in Beatrice athletics

BEATRICE - A sweep for Beatrice basketball and a record setting weekend for Beatrice wrestling made for a great weekend in Beatrice athletics. 

On Friday night, Beatrice basketball played host to Grand Island Northwest for senior night and the Lady Orange and Orangemen came out on top, sending the seniors out in style.

The Lady O needed an extra four minute to finish off the Vikings, but they scored a 53-48 win. For the second straight game the Lady O were led in scoring by Riley Schwisow with 16 points, tying her career high. 

With the win, Beatrice improves to 15-3 on the year, and head coach Jalen Weeks picks up his first career win over the Vikings. 

The Orangemen controlled nearly the entire game, playing one of its best defensive efforts of the year, knocking off the Vikings 46-23. Crew Meints led Beatrice with 14 points in the win. 

Beatrice improves to 11-7 with the victory. Both teams host Waverly in the regular season finale on Thursday. 

Beatrice wrestling set a record with 11 of 14 district wrestlers qualifying for state, plus Autumn Bartlett and Morgan Maschmann on the girls side. Wrestlers heading to Omaha are as follows:
