Girls district wrestling day one results

The first day of the NSAA Girls Wrestling district tournaments are in the books.

The first day of the NSAA Girls Wrestling district tournaments are in the books. Several southeast Nebraska wrestlers are still in contention to qualify for the state championships later this month. 

The top four placers in each weight class from each district will earn spots in the state brackets. The district brackets are double elimination. Due to the bracket format, even wrestlers who have made it to the district semifinals can be eliminated from a spot at the state championships if they go 0-2 Saturday. 

Most area schools are competing in the A-3 District being hosted by Lincoln Southeast High School. 

In the 100-pound division, Jocelyn Prado from Johnson County Central is in the district semifinals with a pair of victories Friday. She is one win away from clinching a spot at state. 

Angelina Schademann of Fillmore Central and Addison Woods from Crete can also still get to the state tournament, but will need ot battle through the consolation bracket to do so. 

At 105 pounds, Alejandra Reyes is in the semifinals with two pinfall victories Friday. With one win Saturday, she'll be headed to state. 

Ruby VanHorn of Crete and Dorchester's Isabella Comejo are each in the consolation bracket and need three wins each to clinch a spot at state.

At 110 pounds, Crete's Dina Mejia Vasquez lost her opening match and needs three wins in consolation bracket to head to state. 

In the 115-pound division, Fillmore Central's Sarah Turner claimed to pinfall victories Friday. With a district semifinal win Saturday, she'll clinch a spot at state. 

Crete's Dianna Jilej lost her opening match, but can still get to state by working her way through the consolation bracket to the third place match. 

Thayer Central's JaeLynn Watson has been eliminated after losing both her matches Friday. 

At 120 pounds, Fillmore Central's JoLee Gewecke and Stephanie Korinek from Dorchester are still alive for a state berth in the consolation bracket both need three wins to make it a reality. 

Thayer Central's Kinley Casey has been eliminated from state contention with two losses Friday. 

In the 125-pound division, Trinity Williams from Crete has moved onto the district semifinals and is one win away from heading to state. 

Williams defeated Thayer Central's Braelyn Degenhardt in the quarterfinals. Degenhardt and Johnson County Central's Yvette Prado are still in contention for state in the consolation bracket. 

At 130 pounds, Thayer Central's Savanna Wiedel is still competing in the consolation bracket. Crete's Jennifer Cervantes Mendo has been eliminated, suffering her second loss of districts to Wiedel via pinfall. 

In the 135-pound division, Fairbury's MaiLee Garner won her first match over Thayer Central's Izabella Habana-Lindeman, but lost her match in the district quarterfinals. 

Both Garner and Habana-Lindeman are still alive for state births, but they'll need to win three matches in a row Saturday. 

Fillmore Central's Kenize Joy has been eliminated, losing twice Friday. 

At 140 pounds, Crete's Le Nelson is one win away from state. This division has fewer competitors than others. Nelson received a bye in the first round and won her quarterfinal match via pin. 

Wilber-Clatonia's Ann Hegwald lost in the quarterfinals, but is still alive in the consolation bracket. She'll need to pick up two victories Saturday to move onto state. 

The 145-pound division has several southeast Nebraska competitors. 

Crete's Alicia Lopez Alvis and Johnson County Central's Rita Ceballos are in the district semifinals. If each win their first matches Saturday, they'll qualify for state and then face one another for the district championship. 

Fairbury's Gabriella Herrera and Fillmore Central's Addison Wolf are each in the consolation bracket, each needing three wins to salvage a state tournament berth. If each win their first matches Saturday, they'll wrestle one another. 

At 155 pounds, Heidi Ramos of Fairbury and Ashaya Steele from Crete won their opening match but lost in the district quarterfinals. Both are now in the consolation bracket, needing three wins to move onto state. 

Johnson County Central's Shelbi Peters and Fillmore Central's Cierra Cruz have been eliminated from the tournament. 

At 170 pounds, Crete's Aileen Rueda is in the district semifinals and needs one win to earn a spot in state. 

In the 190-pound division, Fairbury's Makena Schramm picked up two wins Friday to move into the district semifinals. Crete's Stephanie DonJuan Mendoza did the same. Each won both their matches via pinfall. With one win apiece, they'll clinch spots at state and face off for the district championship. 

And at 235-pounds, Crete's Alexa Ramirez defeated Thayer Central's Kaylee Engle in the quarterfinals. Ramirez now just needs a single victory to move onto state. Engle needs two wins to move through to the third place match and guarantee her spot in Omaha later this month. 

Beatrice meanwhile is competing at the A-1 District at Fremont High School. Here's how they fared.

100 pounds: Autumn Bartelett went 2-0 Friday, advances to district semifinals — one win away from state

105 pounds: Jordyn Kleveland went 1-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

110 pounds: Jorja Boller went 0-1 Friday (had bye in first round), competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

115 pounds: Morgan Maschmann went 2-0 Friday, advances to district semifinals — one win away from state

120 pounds: Ashton Hofeling went 2-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

125 pounds: Megan Powers went 2-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

130 pounds: Elizabeth Thuermagle went 0-2 Friday, has been eliminated from district tournament/state contention

135 pounds: Alexandri Mason went 1-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

140 pounds: Caitlyn Franzen went 0-2 Friday, has been eliminated from district tournament/state contention

155 pounds: Mary Ellen Zapata went 1-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

190 pounds: Kristyanna Dibbles went 1-1 Friday, competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state

235 pounds: Faith Husband went 0-1 Friday (had bye in first consolation match), competing in consolation bracket Saturday — needs three wins to get to state
