LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Police Department said they have arrested two men in connection to the Wednesday investigation on explosive materials

LPD arrested 24-year-old Spenser Speidell and 23-year-old Dominick Fossberg both of Lincoln.

Speidell was arrested for two counts of unlawful possession of explosive materials after the investigation Wednesday morning.

Officials said that an LPD officer performed a traffic stop on a vehicle that had no license plates, around 1 a.m. Wednesday.

LPD said the officer had contact with the drive, Fossberg, and saw reportedly saw evidence of narcotics usage in plain view. He was determined to not be the owner of the vehicle, according to police.

Fossberg was arrested for two counts of possession of a controlled substance and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

When the vehicle was being searched for a narcotics investigation, officers said they found suspicious items that were believed to be homemade explosives.

The Lincoln Fire and Rescue Bomb Squad responded, confirmed the hazardous nature of the devices and rendered them safe.

LPD said officers continued their investigation and spoke the owner, Speidell, at his apartment.

A search warrant was served and additional items were found, police said.

Authorities said the items were safely removed and will undergo additional testing. No injuries were reported at either location.

This is an ongoing investigation.

The LPD said their investigators are working with state and federal partners to determine the circumstances surrounding the explosive devices or if any other individuals are involved.
