Saunders County accident kills one, injures multiple

PRAGUE, Ne. -- Authorities in Saunders County are investigating a two-vehicle accident that injured multiple people and killed one person.
The Saunders County Sheriff's Office said on Wednesday around 8:45 p.m., they responded to a two-vehicle injury accident on Highway 79 four miles north Prague.
Authorities said that an initial investigation showed that a Toyota Camry, driven by a 20-year-old from Lincoln, was traveling north on Highway 79.
The Sheriff's Office said that the Camry appeared to have lost control, entered the east ditch, then the driver overcorrected and crossed the centerline hitting a Buick Regal that was heading south in the southbound lane.
The Regal came to rest in the west ditch, officials said.
Saunders County Sheriff's Office said that the 20-year-old from Lincoln was the only occupant in the Camry, and the Regal's occupants were identified as two adults and two children.
All five people were reportedly taken to a local hospital and multiple were later transferred to a hospital in Omaha.
Officials said that the Camry driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
The Sheriff's Office said the driver of the Regal, a male, is still in the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, while the front seat passenger, an adult female, died at the Omaha hospital.
Authorities said that a 3-year-old, one of the two back seat passengers, has life-threatening injuries. The other back seat passenger, a 6-year-old, has non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Saunders County Sheriff's Office said that the names of the adults are being withheld until Friday, so family can be notified.
Seatbelt usage is still under investigation, and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
This accident is an ongoing investigation by the Sheriff's Office and the Nebraska State patrol.
Assistance was provided by Prague Fire and Rescue, Morse Bluff Fire, Cedar Bluffs Fire and Rescue, North Bend Fire and Rescue, Fremont Fire Department and the NSP.
