Lincoln man sentenced for firearm charge
A Lincoln man was sentenced to three years in prison for having a firearm while being a user of a controlled substance.
LINCOLN, Neb. -- A Lincoln man was sentenced to three years in prison for having a firearm while being a user of a controlled substance.
U.S. Attorney Steven Russell said 23-year-old Jakerrius Jachun Gill, of Lincoln, was sentenced on Dec. 27 for being an unlawful user of a controlled substance who possessed firearms. Gill will serve 36 months in prison along with three years of supervised release after his initial sentence.. There is no parole in the federal system. Gill pleaded guilty to the offense on Sept. 20.
According to court documents, Gill was contacted by a Lincoln Police Department officer on June 2, 2021. The officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from a car that the Gill had been in earlier. Marijuana was found in the car.
Officials said pills that had the appearance and markings of Oxycodone were also found in the vehicle and were later found to be counterfeit and did not contain any controlled substances. Gill admitted to buying the pills from a woman near the area of 27th St. and Dudley St. in Lincoln.
Authorities said Gill was driving a vehicle when he was stopped by an LPD officer on July 11, 2021. The officer noticed the smell of burnt marijuana coming from the vehicle. The officer searched the car and found a Glock model 22, .40 caliber handgun hidden under the driver’s side floor mat.
According to court documents, a search warrant was used at Gill's home in Lincoln on Nov. 16, 2021. Police found drug paraphernalia, Oxycodone pills, and marijuana there.
Officials said another search warrant was used at Gill’s home on Jan. 13, 2022. Police found an AR-style rifle, a FN pistol, the frame of a Glock handgun, prescription pill bottles, and marijuana.
This case was investigated by the Lincoln Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.
