Arrest made after gun found on Southeast Community College Beatrice Campus
Owner of weapon detained for possessing gun on school grounds
BEATRICE - Beatrice Police have arrested a 21-year-old male after a rifle was found in a vehicle, at the Southeast Community College Campus. Police were sent to the campus at the west edge of the city, Friday morning, at 12:38 a.m.
Police arriving on scene observed a black-colored rifle not in a gun case or gun rack. It was visible through the window in the back seat of a red Ford Mustang…that had no license plates.
Officers met with campus security, assisting in locating the owner of the car and items inside it.
The owner unlocked the doors of the vehicle and police seized the rifle….a Marlin 22-caliber gun that was not loaded. No ammunition was found in the vehicle.
21-year-old Zachary Burcham was arrested on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm on school grounds.
