BEATRICE – Beatrice Police arrested a motorist on suspicion of drug violations following a traffic stop Tuesday, in the downtown area.

An officer observed a black Chevrolet Camaro eastbound at Sixth and Court with no license plates or registration paper.   After stopping the driver, a police officer found through a record check that 36-year-old Nicholas Heitman had an active arrest warrant for felony theft, issued from Jefferson County.

Police said in attempting to take Heitman into custody, he resisted and allegedly tried to escape from police.  Police said as they were attempting to gain control of the man, he allegedly swung his arms at officers.  After a failed taser deployment, Heitman was handcuffed.

Authorities say a search of Heitman recovered a large baggie of a substance that field-tested positive, as methamphetamine, and weighed over 2.5 ounces.  Police also recovered nearly $4,500 in money inside the car’s center console.

Heitman was arrested on suspicion of possession of a hazardous drug with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug money, and resisting arrest.  He was taken to the Gage County Jail.
