City, rural fire units sent to van rollover at north edge of Beatrice

BEATRICE – Beatrice Fire and Rescue and Beatrice Rural Fire were dispatched to a one-vehicle rollover accident on a gravel road, Sunday afternoon. The accident was off the north edge of the city, less than a half-mile east of U.S. Highway 77 on Sargent Road….and injured two juveniles
Fire and ambulance units were sent just before one p.m. Southeast Communications reported that there were at least two occupants in the Toyota van…and both were able to get out of the overturned vehicle on their own. The van ended up on its side, off the north side of Sargent Road.
The deputy investigating the accident found two juvenile males from Beatrice on the side of the road being assisted by citizens who had witnessed the accident or came across shortly after the accident occurred.
A 13-year-old driver had taken his parents’ car, drove to a friend’s house in Beatrice, then to the Dollar General Store in Beatrice…and was taking Sargent Road to go home.
Both juveniles were transported by ambulance to Beatrice Community Hospital with minor injuries and their parents were notified. Both were treated and released within an hour.
The 13-year-old driver was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.
Rural and city fire units were on scene for about a half hour to 45 minutes.
