FAIRBURY, NE — Jefferson County is honoring its veterans by taking part in the nationwide Operation Green Light.

Operation Green Light is put on by the National Association of Counties and National Association of County Veteran Service Officers. The mission is to make sure veterans are seen, appreciated and supported.

The Jefferson County Commissioners recently signed a resolution to take part in this year's edition from Nov. 7-13. Local homeowners and and businesses are also encouraged to take part for the weekend and all year round. All it takes is to switch one light bulb in your house or building to a green one.

This isn't the only way the local communities have shown their support on Veteran's Day. There were several Veteran's Day programs at local schools and over 100 American flags will surround the county courthouse for the weekend.

Jefferson County Veteran Service Officer Don Cook brought the resolution forward to the county commissioners. He says he and all area veterans are grateful for the support.

"I think it's great that our community here in Jefferson County supports our veterans," Cook said. "We do as much as we can for them in support and we love to honor them. We just can't say enough about our veterans."
