Two Volunteer Firefighters From Crete Injured In Sunday's Fires

Two volunteer firefighters from Crete who were helping battle the field and grass fires in rural Lancaster County were injured during the blaze on Sunday.

Two volunteer firefighters from Crete who were helping battle the field and grass fires in rural Lancaster County were injured during the blaze on Sunday

According to Crete Fire Chief Tod Allen, the two firefighters were battling the blaze near Hallam, when the winds shifted blowing the flames back at them.

Injured was Brad Elder who received burns to his left hand, calves, and the small of his back requiring skin grafting to repair. 

Elder, who is also a professor at Doane University is currently at St. Elizabeth Hospital’s burn unit with third-degree burns.

Another firefighter injured in the blaze was treated for second degree burns and was released from the hospital.
