FAIRBURY, NE — Officials have released details of a train vs. car accident in Fairbury from Sunday night.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the report of the crash at 11:15 p.m. Sunday night near the intersection of 4th and C streets.

According to authorities' initial investigation, 68-year-old Ray Lowe was driving southbound on C Street when his car dropped a wheel off the road and became high centered and stalled out near the tracks.

It is not clear how long the car was stuck before being hit by the train. Police say Lowe was able to get out of the car and to safety before the accident.

Authorities say they believe alcohol may have been a factor and deputies arrested Lowe at the scene. He was taken to the county jail and booked for DUI.
