BEATRICE – The red flag warnings of the past few days are gone for now, but conditions remain dry and there’s still concern about the hazard of rural fires.

Beatrice Rural Firefighters were sent to two locations on Sunday.   One was a field fire north of West Scott Road, between Southwest 75th and Southwest 89th Road….west of Beatrice.

A fire began in a field where soybeans had been harvested and there was some timber nearby.  Firefighters were sent there at 2:05 p.m., and the fire was extinguished about 50 minutes later.

Sunday night, at about 7:46, firefighters were sent to a small grass fire east of Beatrice, along South 36th Road.  That flare-up, suspected to be caused by disposal of smoking material, was put out in about fifteen minutes.
