High fire danger follows stormy night, in southeast Nebraska
Wind gusts from overnight storms top 70-to-80 miles-per-hour
BEATRICE – An October line of thunderstorms in southeast Nebraska brought high winds and hail to the region late Tuesday night, with one gust of wind clocked at 87 miles-per-hour east of Plymouth. A 70-mile-per-hour storm gust was reported at Crete, and a gust of 68-miles-per-hour at Lewiston. Thunderstorm wind gusts were estimated up to 58 miles-per-hour in Beatrice.
Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for Saline, Jefferson, Gage, Lancaster, Johnson and Pawnee Counties during the late-night period.
Pea-sized hail fell in Beatrice for about five to ten minutes, beginning just before 11:30 p.m.
At KWBE in Beatrice, slightly less than a half-inch of rain fell with the storm line. (.46)
Red flag warnings and fire weather watches have been issued for much of the state, Wednesday and Thursday.
