Lancaster County doctor arrested for sexual assault

A southeast Nebraska doctor is in custody for alleged sexual assaults of his patients earlier this year.

LINCOLN, Neb. -- A southeast Nebraska doctor is in custody for alleged sexual assaults of his patients earlier this year.

On Thursday morning, investigators from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office, with assistance from the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force, served an arrest warrant for 54-year-old Dr. Scott E. Schmidt, of Lincoln.

According to Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner, Schmidt was taken into custody without incident at his home.

Schmidt was arrested for first-degree and second-degree sexual assault for incidents involving two of his patients. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between January 1 and July 1 of this year. Both charges are felonies.

Wagner said the investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff's office is urging any other potential victims or witnesses to come forward by calling (402) 441-6500.
