HASTINGS, NE — Authorities are investigating a possible officer-involved shooting outside of the Hastings Police Department.

A news release says a “law enforcement incident” happened in the 300 block of Lincoln Ave. just after 12:40 Tuesday afternoon. There were no injuries and there is no concern for public safety. The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Kearney Police Department, Grand Island Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol are investigating the incident through South Central Area Law Enforcement Services.

Hastings Police told our news partners KSNB Local 4 that it was an officer-involved incident and shots were fired. It is customary in officer-involved shootings to have outside agencies conduct the investigation.

As of 3:00, several blocks around the east side of the police department remained blocked off. Officers with multiple agencies appeared to be searching for evidence in the yards of the houses on the south side of the 300 block of Lincoln Ave.

This is a developing story.
