LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Lincoln Police Department announced Wednesday afternoon that they have made an arrest in connection to a homicide that happened Tuesday

The LPD said that due to the investigative efforts of their personnel, less than 12-hours after the initial call of the stabbing at a residence near west Allison Court and west Fairfield St., they have taken 61-year-old Charles Alexander into custody.

Police said they took Alexander into custody near south 11th Street and Lincoln Mall.

Alexander was arrested for second-degree murder and use of a deadly weapon to commit a felony around 10 a.m. Wednesday.

It was reported the LPD had been called to the residence on Tuesday, Sept. 20 around 11:30 p.m.

When officers arrived, they said they found a 36-year-old Lincoln woman with serious injuries.

The officers said they provided aid until Lincoln Fire and Rescue arrived, and transported her to a local hospital where she died from her injuries.

Authorities said the victim's family has been made aware of the arrest, however, they are not releasing her name at this time to allow for other family members to be notified.

The investigation continues to be on-going as investigators continue to interview and analyze evidence to determine the timeline of events leading up to, and following, the stabbing as well as the nature of the relationship between Alexander and the victim - if there was any.
