Fatal Clatonia house fire deemed accidental

Nebraska Fire Marshal's Office investigated blaze at 300 Jefferson Street

BEATRICE – A house fire that took the life of a Clatonia woman has been ruled accidental, by the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office.   No other information has been released on the exact cause of the late Monday night fire, at 300 Jefferson Street.

63-year-old Mary Bauer died in the fire.  A 54-year-old brother of the woman was able to escape the fire and was taken to a Lincoln hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Clatonia, Cortland, Hallam and Wilber firefighters and rescue personnel responded to the blaze, along with Gage County Sheriff’s Officers. 

According to information from the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice, Bauer formerly owned and operated the Coyote Den in Clatonia and owned an antique shop in Seward for several years.

A celebration of life service is Saturday, September 3rd  from 1 to 3 p.m., at R.J.’s Bar and Grill in DeWitt.
