Judicial Commission to interview judge candidates in Falls City

Person selected will fill vacancy created by a retirement

BEATRICE – A hearing of the Judicial Nominating Commission to interview county court judge candidates in southeast Nebraska is set for this Wednesday, July 20th.

The commission will interview three candidates for a First Judicial District County Judge position, which will be based either in Richardson County, Nemaha County or Pawnee County.  The location will be determined by the Nebraska Supreme Court after consulting with the person appointed to the judge position.

The person appointed to the position will fill a vacancy created due to the retirement of Judge Curtis Maschmann. 

Finalists include Diane Merwin, of Humboldt, Richard R. Smith of Cook and Angelo Ligouri, of Auburn.

The Wednesday public hearing will be held at the Richardson County Courthouse District Courtroom, beginning at 10 a.m.   Citizens can present testimony to the commission…. in person during the hearing.  The deadline to submit written comments has passed. 

The First Judicial District counties include Gage, Johnson, Pawnee, Saline, Jefferson, Richardson, Nemaha and Thayer.
