Resurfacing of a major highway in a northeast Kansas town will start later this week.

The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) says work on U.S. Highway 36 within Washington, KS's city limits will begin Wednesday, July 13.

Work to replace the existing asphalt pavement is set to take until summer 2023 to complete.

The project will be done in thirds across the roadway, allowing traffic to continue through construction. Access to adjacent businesses will be limited from U.S. Highway 36.

At a certain point, the project will force the closure of the U.S Highway 36/Kansas Highway 15 junction. The closure, to be announced at a later date, will lead to a signed detour leading people through the area.
