BEATRICE - Local law officers are encouraging rural residents not to be reluctant to report suspicious activity.

Gage County Sheriff Millard Gustafson, investigators and deputies encourage citizens to take precautions to secure their valuables, vehicles, farm equipment and supplies against theft or damage.

Thefts or criminal mischief occur throughout the county and have a higher likelihood of being deterred, or a suspect apprehended if citizens call in suspicious vehicles or persons as soon as possible.

Gustafson says that allows deputies to respond to the area and catch the suspects in the act or in possession of stolen property.   That prompt reporting can at least help identify suspicious persons, which could serve to curtail criminal activity.

Persons who see something or someone suspicious, can call the Southeast Communications Center at 402-223-4080.

Gustafson recommends you provide as much information as possible... such as location, descriptions, license plates and direction of travel of a vehicle. Dispatchers will relay that information to law officers.

The information provided can aid in making an arrest and perhaps solve additional crimes.
