BEATRICE -- The dirt racing surface at the Gage County Fairgrounds will be quiet on Friday night.

After the Beatrice area received nearly an inch of rain, some areas with more in isolated spots, Beatrice Speedway announced there will be no racing on Friday. The announcement came just after 2:00 PM on the track's Facebook page.

The track said the corners had become too soft for adequate racing. At about noon, the track had appeared to have begun to dry, but not enough to hold the evening's event.

Beatrice Speedway is back in action next Friday night. With warm weather and low precipitation chances for the week ahead, the odds of racing next weekend are much improved.
