WYMORE - The City of Wymore is ready to come together to celebrate the summer season.

Sam Wymore Days kicks off on Friday and committee member Tony Shepardson talked about the festival and how it got its name.

“It’s a local celebration,” Shepardson said. “Sam Wymore was the founder of Wymore so now there’s a celebration.”

Shepardson and those on the committee take an extra sense of pride when planning for Sam Wymore Days because the group who ran it previously, nearly let it slip away.

“We didn’t want to see that, so we picked up Sam Wymore Days,” Shepardson said. “We got it going again, and last year, it was a great turn out, especially with COVID, I think people wanted to get out, and it’s just nice to have a local celebration.”

The festival is Friday-Sunday, with events all across town. On Friday, there’s a flea market, and a free block party, Saturday features events all day long, and Sunday the flea market continues. There’s also the 2-man golf tournament at Wymore Country Club. Shepardson also said there’s a few new events as well.

“A magic show on Friday evening downtown,” Shepardson said. “We also have the polka dot entertainment fire show on Saturday.”

Shepardson explained why Sam Wymore Days is so important to the area.

“Unfortunately, the town’s getting smaller and smaller,” Shepardson said. “It’s just something we can do to get people out and get to do something.”
